Taylor Racing Looks Toward Vegas Finale

Belvidere, IL (September 29, 2009) - After a convincing flag to flag win in Round 12, Scott Taylor was looking to use that win to build momentum for a late season rally to move up in the TORC PRO-2WD standings. Unfortunately, the second visit to Perris Auto Speedway in the TORC schedule would become a weekend that Taylor Racing needed to forget.

Unseasonably hot temperatures really added another element that all the TORC teams had to overcome. All weekend, daytime temperatures were in the 100s, while the evening temperatures were in the 60s. This created two completely track conditions, a dry somewhat slippery condition for daytime practice and qualifying, and a tacky track that developed a nice cushion for each evening’s competition. This kept everyone, including Taylor Racing, adjusting their trucks every time they hit the track.

The track itself was the same layout as the previous visit, with the addition of a couple more jumps, a group of moguls at the end of the whoop section, and a redesigned tabletop jump, that really shot the trucks higher and farther than before.

The first Friday practice session went well as the team made a spring change to prepare for the final session before Round 13. After one lap in the session, Scott knew the transmission had a problem, and immediately brought the truck back to begin the replacement process. With only a few hours before the race, the crew quickly made the switch ijn plenty of time.

Round 13
The starting grid saw the #8 Miller Welders Skyjacker Suspensions BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 start on the inside of the second row due to his fourth overall position in the PRO-2WD standings.

The start saw the Miller Welders jump off to a great start making a quick inside move before hitting the backstretch series of jumps. As the truck went through the jumps, the right front corner of the truck seemed out of control, a suspension member had broken. Two laps later, Scott pulled off the track.

The crew quickly made the repairs and was race ready, well ahead of schedule.

Round 14
The Saturday night race provided another early exit for the Miller Welders Ford F-150. On lap eight of the twenty lap feature, saw Scott end his weekend when his engine lost oil pressure.

“When things go bad for me they really go bad,” commented Scott Taylor. “Both nights I might been able to struggle around and make it to the checkers, but I didn’t want to abuse the truck. We may be down right now, but with the “Power of Blue” behind us, I can’t wait to get to Las Vegas.”

Currently Scott Taylor is fifth overall in the 2009 TORC PRO-2WD Championship standings.

You can watch all the Round 14 action, including the PRO-2WD race, Sunday, October 4, at 11:30am eastern on ESPN2.

The final weekend of the 2009 Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL is October 23-24 at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
