Taylor Keeps Progressing – Has Solid Finish in Round 12

Belvidere, IL (September 15, 2008) - After win the BorgWarner Cup in Crandon, WI, Scott Taylor and his team only had a few days to prep his truck for the rigors of Championship Off-Road Racing’s Round 11 and 12 at The Quarry. Currently, Taylor Racing is in eighth place in the CORR PRO-2 standings, and with only five rounds of racing before the Baldwin Cup, every championship point is more valuable than ever.

    Friday
After Russ Wernimont and Mike Kasch put the Chula Vista setup in the #8 Skyjacker Suspensions BFGoodrich Tire Ford F-150, Scott had the misfortune of qualifying in the first group. Typically the first group of qualifiers goes out just after the track is watered, this is a definite disadvantage. Scott’s qualifying time pit the #8 Ford on the grid in the eleventh spot in the twenty-six truck field.

    Saturday
The rolling start saw Scott quickly move past three trucks and in the eighth place by the end of the second lap. By the mandatory yellow on lap eight, Scott had the Skyjacker Ford in seventh place. On lap 10, as the field was coming out of Turn One, down Thrill Hill, someone checked up causing #5 Evans to roll off the track, and several trucks, including Scott, got tangled up and by the time #8 Ford resumed racing, Scott was back in fifteenth place. With only a few laps left, Scott knew he had his work cut out for him. When the checkered flag came out, the #8 Skyjacker Suspensions BFGoodrich Tire Ford F-150 finished eleventh.

    Sunday
The Skyjacker Suspensions BFGoodrich Tire Ford F-150 qualified fourteenth. The effort was not up to Scott Taylor’s liking, but he knew that he and Russ had a good setup in the truck for the race.

Starting well back in the field meant that there wasn’t any time to waste, once the green flag fell. By the end of lap one, Scott got around four trucks, including #3 Todd LeDuc. On lap eight the mandatory yellow came out and Scott had moved up to sixth place.

The running order at the break was #17 Renezeder, #4 Greaves, #15 McGrath, #21 MacCachren, #2 Cenni, and #8 Scott Taylor.

After the yellow, Scott really put his BFGoodrich Tires to work. Now he was looking to get on the podium. The Skyjacker Ford was in a serious battle with #3 LeDuc, as #9 Ricky Johnson right behind.

On lap twelve, #4 Greaves and #2 Cenni get into one another allowing Scott to move into fourth place. Then a full course yellow comes out, for an incident on the other side of the track, bunching the field back together. On the restart #15 McGrath spins, and the #8 Skyjacker Ford moves up to third.

On the final lap, #9 LeDuc pushes the #8 Ford wide, going through Turn Four. Scott gained the spot back in Turn Five when LeDuc spun as the two drivers fought for position. Unfortunately, as Scott was battling LeDuc, #9 Johnson slipped underneath both trucks, and grabbed the final spot on the podium. At the finish, Scott Taylor crossed the line for a hard fought fourth place.

“Today I decided to be a little more aggressive out there,” remarked Scott Taylor. “Most of the season, I seemed to be at the receiving end of the contact. Today I was able to really hold my ground. Russ and I came up with some new sway bar settings and BFGoodrich came up with a different groove. Now the truck is rotating through the corners much better. Now I need to work on our qualifying package.”

Currently Scott Taylor is in eighth place in the 2008 CORR PRO-2 standings.

Scott Taylor’s next race: CORR Rounds 13 & 14, October 25-26, in Primm, Nevada.
