Taylor Rolls into 5th Place at Crandon

Belvidere, IL (June 21, 2011) - Scott Taylor was looking forward to getting back to one of his all-time favorite tracks, the “Big House,” Crandon International Off-Road Raceway. It is safe to say, Taylor has more wins at this facility than any other competitor in its history. The high speed, high flying layout has always fit the seven-time champion’s driving style best. The question was could the new teams make the change from the tight and technical RED BUD layout to the Super Speedway of Crandon?

Friday afternoon saw the PRO teams take to the 1.75 mile layout for a practice session and a couple of hours later, the three lap qualifying session. After practice, Taylor made a gear change and a quick tweak of the rear suspension. The word around the paddock was that the track had gained some speed over the winter as the trucks were approaching 110mph heading into Potawatomi Turn One. The #8 Miller Welders AMSOIL BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 PRO-2WD truck stopped the timers third quickest.

The next morning a light drizzle blanketed the track, only lasting about an hour, making incredible racing conditions all day long.

Saturday – Round 3. The PRO-2WD land rush start had Scott coming out of Turn One in fourth place. Early on in the eight lap race, the top six trucks seemed to be running nose to tail, like a freight train running across. Then on Lap 3, Taylor grabbed the third spot as the field headed for the halfway mandatory caution lap.

On the restart the pressure from Kincaid and Hord was very intense. With a lap and half to go, the blue Scott caught a rut the wrong way and rolled the truck. Fortunately it landed right on its BFGoodrich Tires, but was now in fifth place. The final lap saw the #8 blue Ford looking for a way around Hord, but ran out of laps. The Miller Welders Ford officially finished in fifth place.

“Today I slipped up and it bit me,” remarked Scott Taylor. “The top six trucks in PRO-2WD are all capable of winning. There’s just no room for error. This place is getting faster or maybe our trucks are just that much faster. All I know my RoushYates engine was really working my BFGoodrich Tires, and neither missed a beat.”

Sunday– Round 4 – Cancelled. For the first time in Crandon’s history, an entire day of racing was cancelled due to flooding on the race course. A torrential downpour of rain lasted most of the night caused Parson’s Pond to overflow onto the race course. TORC officials will reschedule the round at a later date.

With only two rounds of racing in the record books, Scott Taylor stands in third place in PRO-2WD championship standings.

Next Race: July 22-23, The Dirt Track @ Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord, North Carolina.
