Bark
River Continues to Keep Taylor at Bay
Belvidere, IL (July 13, 2009) – Coming off the win in Round 6, Scott
Taylor and his #8 Skyjacker Suspensions BF Goodrich Tires Ford F-150
were looking to put together a streak of podium finishes heading into
the second half of the season. The all-natural terrain course has
given Taylor Racing difficult times throughout his 35-year career. In
2009, the story for Illinois native at the Upper Michigan track had a
familiar outcome.
The familiar track, known to millions thanks to the video game Dirt,
has some new twists added throughout the layout. A rhythm section was
added, corner banking was installed in two locations, some of the
jumps were made larger, the hill landing area was wider, and the PRO
classes had a rolling start. The competitors welcomed most of the
changes, as it made for better racing.
Saturday Round 7
After some Friday night suspension changes, Scott Taylor felt
confident a podium finish would be the order of the day.
The two wide rolling start coming down the usual Bark River starting
area was new twist ordered by TORC. When the green flag waved the
fifteen-car field immediately went six wide heading into to the first
turn. After some pushing and rubbing the #8 Ford F-150 headed down the
front stretch in fourth place. By lap three, Taylor was in third
place. Then the Bark River track fought back. The Skyjacker Ford was
slowed due to almost getting high centered on the top of the banking
of the finish line corner, as well as a spin in the same area,
relegated Taylor Racing to a thirteenth place finish.
Overnight, the crew went to work replacing the transmission, revalving
the King Shocks, and contemplating the tire setup.
After Sunday morning practice, Taylor knew the overnight changes were
steps in the right direction.
Sunday Round 8
The rolling start put Scott Taylor in the second row, this time Scott
stayed out of trouble and ran a hard fought race, staying in the top
four the entire race. At the checkered flag the red, white and blue
Ford was awarded fourth place.
“The truck ran much better today,” remarked Scott Taylor. “We handled
the rhythm section better and the truck had much more forward bite. I
thought I had Todd passed on the last lap to get on the podium, but
the engine bobbled, and he finished just a head of me. We seem to have
same old Bark River luck, but at least we aren’t going home with a
torn up race truck. This weekend we had another great field of PRO-2WD
trucks, and the majority of the drivers have a legitimate shot to land
on the podium. This why we come to race with TORC.”
After the midway point of the Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL
PRO-2WD Championship, Scott Taylor is in fourth place.
 The
next race is back at Bark River Off-Road Raceway on August 8 –9.
