Taylor Increases Championship Points Lead at the BorgWarner
Championships.
Scott Taylor and his Skyjacker BFGoodrich Ford F-150 came to Crandon
International Raceway looking to rebound from the troubled filled weekend
in Bark River.
The weather was uncharacteristically hot and dry for the 35th anniversary
Borg Warner Off-Road Championships. The lack of summer rains challenged
the tire companies to come up with the right
combination to keep their teams competitive.
Friday – Once everyone finished up with the downtown race festivities,
Scott and the BFGoodrich came up with a tire package that would maximize
the horsepower from the Roush Performance.
The tire setup was perfect as Scott qualified on the front row for
Sunday’s BorgWarner Off-Road Championship Cup.
Saturday
Round 11
Scott Taylor in his Skyjacker, BFGoodrich, Ford F-150 came out the land
rush start right behind Montana’s Brian Hinman. As the two trucks went by
the Ford Trucks Skyboxes, Scott made a great pass into the lead. At the
finish, Scott crossed the line over 18 seconds ahead the second place
finisher.
Sunday
Round 12
It was almost a repeat of Saturdays race, Taylor and the Skyjacker
BFGoodrich Ford F-150 again came out of the first turn in 2nd place and
soon thereafter passed Evan Evans for the lead. Quickly Scott built a
healthy lead on the rest of the field. Suddenly at mid-race, Scott
reported that the power steering unit failed. This made cornering a very
difficult task. Taylor continued on and finished a very respectable 5th
place. The 1st and 5th place finished gave a Scott Taylor an 18 point lead
in the championship with only two rounds of racing left in the Lucas Oil
CORR season....
The 10th Annual BorgWarner Shootout
As soon as Scott brought the truck back to the team’s pit area, the entire
team went to work replacing the power steering pump. Just as the truck was
to head to the staging area for the Shootout, Scott realized the new pump
wasn’t working properly either. Quickly the team went to work installing a
third pump. At a breakneck pace the crew pressed on and within 15 minutes
the truck was headed the start line with a working steering system. Almost
immediately after Scott got into position, the green flag dropped. By lap
three Scott passed Evan Evans for the lead, unfortunately the Pro-4 (4wd)
trucks of Johnny Greaves and Curt LeDuc were right on Scott’s rear bumper
as well. On lap 5 both Pro-4 trucks passed Scott.
The race finished with Johnny Greaves first, fellow Skyjacker competitor
Curt LeDuc second, and Scott Taylor third. Once again Scott was the first
Pro-2 (2wd) truck to finish the BorgWarner Shootout. Scott Taylor is the
only driver to compete in all 10 BorgWarner Shootouts.
Afterwards Scott realized how important his pit crew is… “I don’t think we
ever had a pressure
situation like today. When it came to replacing the pump the final time,
the crew really picked
up the pace, but never panicked. I just can’t say enough about them. Then
to finish the race
third overall and the first 2WD truck, it was just awesome.”
